Some say that our First Lady -- Democratic champion of the downtrodden -- isn't being sensitive to Americans dealing with the worst economy in decades.

First, she wore $500 sneakers to an inner-city food bank.

Then she jetted to Manhattan for an elaborate date night on Broadway.

And now, Michelle Obama is accused of flashing a shiny, new, $6,000 purse on her visit to Russia:

Earlier this week (while strolling the wooded landscape outside of Moscow), she carried a sexy black clutch, which Italian luxury house VBH boasts is their shiny black alligator manila bag – with a retail sticker price of $5,950.

I know I criticize the First Couple a lot on this blog, but now I must defend her. The sensationalist stories about Michelle carrying a $6,000 purse are scurrilous, irresponsible and completely untrue. It was a clutch.
