Just as many predicted, Obama has decided to respond to the Iranian mullahs brutal suppression of their people with full and complete capitulation. Pathetically, the ABC News report attempts to make the action look tough and principled -- just look at the headline:

In "major" speech Clinton will warn Iran about engagement timeline

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will deliver what her aides are touting as a "major" foreign policy address this afternoon, a day before she leaves on her first foreign trip since breaking her elbow in a fall last month...

According to excerpts of her remarks provided this morning, Clinton will hold the door open for talks with Iran despite Tehran's crackdown on political protestors following last month's election. But, she will warn Iran the offer will not be on the table for ever.

Clinton will call the political crackdown in Iran "deplorable and unacceptable" but adds that "We remain ready to engage with Iran."

"The opportunity will not remain open indefinitely," Clinton will say, though the excerpts do not define how long the Obama administration will keep its hand extended to Iran.

Despite the spin, this is hardly a case of Clinton laying down the law to the mullahs.

The story claims, "Clinton will call the political crackdown in Iran 'deplorable and unacceptable' but adds that 'We remain ready to engage with Iran.'" If the Iranian leaderships' bloody attack on their own people was "unacceptable," then we wouldn't be accepting it by maintaining our "open hand" policy. The Administration's action -- or inaction -- proves that Ahmadinejad and Khamenei's suppression is perfectly acceptable.

Clinton states, "the opportunity will not remain open indefinitely," but the story adds that "the excerpts do not define how long the Obama administration will keep its hand extended to Iran." So, the opportunity will only remain open until Obama leaves office? Tough talk, indeed.

It appears that even ABC PR News realizes the weakness of this statement. Which is why they feature Clinton as the main driver rather than Obama, whose orders she is carrying out.

Don't listen to what Obama says; watch what he does. The mullahs certainly are.
