I had to do something today I've never had to do before in the history of this blog.

Delete a comment for foul language. And it came from another (alleged) conservative re: Obama's birth certificate.

sigh

Let's pause a moment to analyze why Obama is not responding to the birther's demands.

*Assuming Obama wasn't born in the U.S. : *

• He doesn't release his birth certificate, and the birthers continue to make themselves (and everyone else on the right-wing) look like blithering conspiracy nuts. *Net win: Obama *

• He doesn't release his birth certificate, and the controversy dies down: *Net win: Obama. *

• He releases his birth certificate and we get President Joe Biden (shudder). Net win: Birthers (sorta).

*Assuming he was born in the U.S. : *

• He doesn't release his birth certificate, and the birthers continueto make themselves (and everyone else on the right-wing) look likeblithering conspiracy nuts. *Net win: Obama *

• He doesn't release his birth certificate, and the controversy dies down: *Net win: Obama. *

• He releases his birth certificate and it shows that he was born in Hawaii. The birthers then move on to some other standard that might cast doubts on Obama's citizenship (as all conspiracy theories do) and continue to make themselves look silly. Net win: Obama.

Obama has everything to gain and nothing to lose by keeping things the way they are. And by continuing to demand more and more evidence to counter something that is fait accompli, the birthers are digging themselves in deep and deeper.
